About Kate Donaghy

Kate’s professional training was as a barrister, followed by more than 15 years as a Head-hunter, latterly working with companies on succession planning under the banner of Donaghy-Palamara & Co. After 2002 she shifted focus to become a personal advisor to board members on career and board related issues, and as such was one of the two founder partners of Manchester Square Partners. In 2013, in also going plural with other board involvements, Kate set up The Board Advisory Partnership. This brings together her advisory client work and is the context in which she continues her thought leadership work on Chairmanship.  This latter has led Kate to become one of the most active researchers into the current practice of Chairmanship. Read her publications.   In 2014 this work led to the creation of a the series known as ‘Chairing in Practice’. (Formerly ‘The Future Chairmen’s Forum’)

In earlier life, Kate graduated with an LLB from the School of Oriental and African Studies, SOAS, specialising in Chinese and Japanese law and was called to the Bar as a member of Gray’s Inn in 1987. As a form of 7-year gap year before taking her law degree, Kate trained as a nurse in her home town of Belfast during the late 1970’s before working and travelling in Africa and Asia as a Nurse in the early 80’s.  Between 2007-2016 she served as a Trustee of Arvon, which uses the medium of writing to help disadvantaged children and other groups to develop their potential. She is also associated with the Academy of Ancient Music, one of the world’s leading orchestras playing early music and acts as an Ambassador for DePaul International, the leading organisation working with Homelessness in the UK, Ireland, US and Eastern Europe.
